ENQUIRE ABOUT THIS WORK
Marianne Walker makes three-dimensional drawings that are heavily informed by the material remains of the past. She uses paper-clay to make fragmentary body parts that she then draws across using ink and pencil. She see’s drawing as a process of materialisation, a dynamic enlivening that infuses potency and presence into the work. Her objective is to escape the rectangular page and push the two-dimensional medium of drawing into becoming a three-dimensional entity that can further confront the viewer.
Marianne Walker was born and raised in Yorkshire, then Hong Kong. She now lives and works in London. She gained an MA in Sculpture from Wimbledon College of Art and received the Observer Magazine New British Artist Award for her final exhibition. Her work has been featured in national and international exhibitions including the Jerwood Drawing Prize, Romantic Detachment (PS1, Moma New York), Contemporary British Drawing 2015 (Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts, China) and Artworks Open 2018 (Barbican Arts Group).
