Lisa Stokes is a British artist based in Plymouth, Devon. Her practice draws on the fundamental themes of motherhood, psychology and loss. She combines these emotive elements with the patient use of contrasting mediums including oil paint, oil pastel, ink and charcoal, to make paintings which weave all these elements together to create significant depth.
Stokes work has been selected for various notable exhibitions including the BP Portrait Award at The National Portrait Gallery, The Hunting Art Prize at The Royal College of Art, The National Open Art Competition, The Royal Academy Summer Show, The London Art Fair, The British Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery and Spinneri Art Fair, Leipzig, Germany. The Ruth Borchard Collection recently purchased two paintings for ‘Ruth Borchard : The Next Generation Collection’ which includes works by Maggie Hambling, Celia Paul, Nicola Hicks, David Bomberg and John Keane. Her work is held in many private collections in the UK and internationally.
