This gravestone-like sculptural tablet invokes place and time through ideas of the eternal and remembrance. The graphic lines are tracings of symbols found on 18th century headstones at Tavistock Cemetery, Devon. The title is taken from a lyric in ‘Cemetry Gates’ (1986) by The Smiths. The song contemplates finding inspiration in the creative work of others, a consideration shared by Ray in his use and appropriation of historical marks.
